Risgrynsgröt- Rice Porridge

Risgrynsgröt- a favorit for Christmas morning but is great all winter long!

Any leftovers can be used to make Ris a la Malta, a dessert for the Christmas table. Just add whipped heavy cream and chopped up orange slices. Use a glass Pyrex measuring cup with ML when making this. 

This is what you will need for 10 servings or 2.5L porridge:

400ml  Grötris

3 tablespoons Butter

2 teaspoons Salt

4 Cinnamon sticks

800ml water

1200-1500ml milk

  1. Add rice, cinnamonsticks, butter and water to a large pot. Allow to boil for 10 min.

2. Add the lower amount of the milk and turn down the heat to low, barely boiling. Stir now and then to prevent the porridge from sticking to the bottom of the pan.

3. Add more milk if it gets too thick. Simmer the porridge for approx. 1 1/2 hours or until the rice is soft.

A fun old tradition is to add one blanched almond to the porridge. The story goes that who ever gets the almond is the next to get married!

Serve with milk, sugar and ground cinnamon.
