The mittens and socks Ekshärad are named after a small village in Sweden which is known for its old wooden church. The church dates back to the 17th century and the graveyard is famously known for its 500 iron crosses, which are shaped like "Trees of life". The crosses have loose iron leaves hanging and spikes facing upwards. It is these iron crosses that Åse Öjbro drew her inspiration for the Ekshärad pattern.
